Apple And Raisin Crumble

Crumbles are one of the easiest desserts to make.  I decided to make an apple crumble for dinner one day and served the hot crumble with custard and it was delicious!!.  Crumble tastes best when served while warm with either runny custard or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Recipe :Apple Crumble  Recipe adapted from Australian Women's Weekly Magazine

Serves 4-5

Filling :
2 green apples, peeled  and sliced ( should make about 1 1/2 cups )
1/3 cup ( 50g) raisins
1/4 cup light brown sugar ( or use regular sugar if you do not have it)
1/2  tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp lemon/ lime juice.

Topping :

1/3 cup almonds, sliced
1/2 cup Quaker quick cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup light brown sugar or regular sugar
 125 g butter, unsalted

1.  Take an ovenproof (6-cup size dish)  dish,  butter it lightly, and set aside.  In a large mixing bowl, mix apple slices, raisins, lemon/lime juice, sugar and cinnamon and mix well. Spread the mixture in the oven-proof dish.

2. Prepare the topping, Sift flour and baking powder, and add sugar, oats, cinnamon and almonds into a bowl.

Rub the butter into the mixture till crumbly with a  few little blobs here and there is okay.

Spread over the apple mixture.  Bake in a preheated oven at about 180 degrees Celsius, gas mark 4 for about 30 - 45 minutes till the top is golden and the filling is bubbling.

Serve warm with runny custard or vanilla ice cream.

Note: I prepared the custard to go with the crumble using store-bought custard powder and just followed the instructions on the can.
