Storing left over tomato paste /puree
"When I store it inside the refrigerator, it tends to get mouldy. I avoid freezing it because then I have to defrost the freezer every week, as it ends up getting covered in ice."
I have heard of storing pesto with oil layer on top so I tried it on my tomato paste and it worked!!!. So to store, spoon any leftover tomato paste into a small bottle that is completely dry, Not even a drop of water should be there even on the lid!!. Use a small teaspoon to smooth the top and then add a thin layer of olive oil on top. Put the lid on tight and store in the refrigerator. Make sure the tomato paste stays under the oil.
I use this method for both tomato pastes and purees and homemade pesto.
Thanks for the tomato paste tip, I will try it soon.
ReplyDeleteI try to stay away from trouble makers as much as I possibly can!
This is a great tip! Thanks for sharing - I otherwise always end up throwing away the leftover paste because it expired!
ReplyDeleteAnd I hate those busy-bodies too! I'd say, just stay away from them and don't let them get to you. It's easier said than done, but that's the only way you don't drag yourself down to their level!
I do the same thing with tomato paste but I never thought of extending this tip for other sauces!
ReplyDeleteI understand your feeling , hate people like that too.
Don't like people like, I'd just stay away from them, and not pass repeat the garbage they are trying to stir up! Be better than them, don't stoop to their level. Ignore them! Good luck! Better to vent here!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea with the tomato paste!
