Hoisin Chicken
I saw this recipe of food for tots and decided to try it. Have made it a point that once a week I will try a new recipe from the blogs I read, and if it turns out well will let you guys know. Anyway, this was the first time I tried hoisin sauce, i try not to buy too many sauces that are going to be stuck and forgotten in the end of the kitchen cupboard. But the chicken looked so tempting so went ahead and bought myself a jar of hoisin. Although i did tweak the recipe to make it a little spicy, hubby still found it a little too sweet for his taste.
You can check out the original hoisin chicken recipe at food for tots.
for 2
2 whole chicken leg pieces ( skinned and trimmed off fat)
3tbsp hoisin sauce
1tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp light sauce
A few drops of sesame sauce
1/2 inch piece ginger julienned
1 garlic clove, finely sliced
1 red chilli ( sliced)
cornflour mixed with a little water to thicken the sauce
1. Pat the chicken dry, and place it in a bowl with all the ingredients except the cornflour. leave to marinate for 1 hour or so.
2. Bring your steamer to boil place the chicken, along with the marinade, in a heat-proof plate place it inside the steamer and steam for about 45 minutes till nice and tender.
3. Remove the plate from the oven, remove the chicken pour the sauce into a small saucepan and bring to a boil, to reduce, and add the corn flour to thicken it. taste add salt if you want but the sauces are quite salty so take care of that.
Drizzle the sauce over the chicken and serve. Serve with plain cooked rice, and some greens of your choice i had some sweetpeas.
Enjoy!
Chicken looks so tasty, full of flavor!
